Digital Library Initiatives in Science and Techonology Libraries in Malabar Area of Kerala (India): A Survey

Recent Developments in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) have given birth to a number of digital libraries. The development of digital libraries is going on with the significant change in the creation, access, use and management of information.In the present era the information is not only to be considered as a resource but also it is a product and basic need of the world. Apart from the conventional form of information sources, there is digital form too. The rapid growth of communication and computer technology opened the doors to store and disseminate information digitally. Now the colleges, universities, and research organizations are starting to build digital depositories for the intellectual output of their institutions and the digital libraries became one of the essential part of any institution especially in Science and Technology. This study look into the present status of initiatives taken by various science and technology libraries in kerala. The result shows that most of the libraries have collection of digital materials but systematic organisation is not implemented yet some initiatives have begun.
